UniLaSalle announces the publication of a collective work edited by Fabiana Fabri and Loïc Sauvée, devoted to the links between industry and sustainable cities, illustrated by innovative initiatives carried out in Rouen, Normandy, and beyond, elsewhere in Europe!

Industrial territories to be reinvented

UniLaSalle welcomes the publication of Territoires industriels en milieu urbain : initiatives pour une transition durable (Industrial territories in urban areas: initiatives for a sustainable transition), published in June 2025 by the publishing department of the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM).

The result of the first seminar of the UsinoVerT – Usines & Territoires Chair, held in Rouen in November 2023, this book traces the paths of conversion of historically industrialized cities. Through the combined perspectives of researchers, elected officials, industrialists, and citizens, it highlights the importance of local roots—memories, cultures, geographies, and collective imaginations—in understanding how industry can reestablish itself in cities and play a leading role.

An interdisciplinary approach to sustainable cities

Soil renaturation, urban agriculture, citizen consultation, land rezoning: these are just some of the topics explored in order to view factories as an integral part of their social and ecological environment. By drawing on multidisciplinary approaches, the authors demonstrate that sustainable reindustrialization depends on a combination of science, technology, and citizen aspirations.

Territoires industriels en milieu urbain is now available in PDF and ePub formats for €13. To find out more and order a copy, visit the UTBM online store.
