The soil microbiome: an asset for agriculture

With Wassila Riah-Anglet, research fellow at UniLaSalle, AGHYLE research unit (UP 2018.C101)

Soil is a precious resource that nourishes plants and is home to immense microbial diversity. This microbiome plays a vital role (nutrient recycling, soil structuring, crop protection). Intelligent management of this microbiome increases soil fertility and resilience to climate change. The soil microbiome is a key player in the transition to sustainable agriculture. New agricultural practices must integrate microbial balance management to improve soil, plant, and environmental health.

She will be accompanied by Thierry Jouenne, Director of Research at the PBS Laboratory (UMR 6270 CNRS).

Biofilms and microbiology in the 21st century

Bacterial biofilms, defined as consortia of microorganisms located at an interface, are omnipresent in our environment. Although sometimes useful (in which case they are referred to as positive biofilms or microbiota), these microbial structures are unfortunately also often involved in numerous clinical infections as well as many health, environmental, and industrial disorders. During this evening, we will discuss the main areas in which biofilms pose problems, as well as the main strategies for combating these structures.
