UniLaSalle has joined forces with SIAAP as part of the MeSeine Innovation program to use remote sensing and AI to develop innovative tools for monitoring water quality in the Seine.
At a time when environmental monitoring is becoming a major issue, the MeSeine Innovation program, supported by the SIAAP, aims to develop innovative tools for assessing the quality of water in the Seine. As a scientific partner, UniLaSalle is contributing its expertise in remote sensing and artificial intelligence to this initiative, as part of the Inneauvation approach.
An innovative approach using satellite analysis
Traditionally, water quality analysis is based on in situ sampling and laboratory analysis. While these methods remain essential, they do not provide exhaustive spatio-temporal coverage. Satellite imagery offers a complementary solution:
- Near-real-time monitoring of the Seine along its entire course,
- Identification of changes in water quality via indicators such as suspended solids, chlorophyll and turbidity,
- Prediction of ecological trends using artificial intelligence models.
UniLaSalle's scientific involvement
As part of this project, Gomal Amin, a doctoral student in the AGHYLE research unit at UniLaSalle Beauvais, and supervised by Olivier Pourret, is working with SIAAP to develop remote sensing models using satellite data to refine water quality analyses. By combining these data with field surveys, it is possible to improve the accuracy of estimates and provide concrete solutions for water resource management.
A project serving the environment and public policy
MeSeine Innovation, supported by SIAAP, aims to develop environmental monitoring tools that will help public players and water managers optimize their decision-making. By enabling better monitoring of the Seine, this innovation could contribute to a reduction in environmental impacts and better anticipation of pollution episodes.
With this project, UniLaSalle once again illustrates its commitment to applied research that is useful and delivers concrete solutions for the environment, alongside major players in water management.
